Covid-19 Frequently Asked Questions
(last updated 8 September 2023)
What is required to enter Morocco?
As of 30 September 2022, Morocco has removed the requirement of confirming being fully vaccinated or negative results from a PCR test. To enter Morocco you may have to complete a health form, which can be downloaded here.
I’m travelling to Morocco from USA, what do I do?
To fly to Morocco, book your airfare to and from Marrakech (airport code: RAK). Royal Air Maroc flies to Morocco from New York City (JFK) or Washington DC (IAD); you'll have a stop in Casablanca and then a short 1-hour flight to Marrakech (RAK) where our trip begins. This route has been open since September 2020, which is when Morocco re-opened its borders to tourists.
Since June 2021, Morocco re-opened its air borders with more flights from UK and Europe. During spring 2021, flights from France and Spain on select carriers were mostly operated without restrictions. Do note: travelling through Europe, entry and Covid-19 testing requirements do change.
Bring a copy of your vaccine certificate (if applicable) and you may have to fill in a public health passenger form, which can be downloaded here.
I’m returning to USA, what is required to return?
All air passengers coming to USA, including US citizens and fully vaccinated people, are no longer required to show a negative covid-19 test result before boarding a flight to USA.
You may need to complete further viral tests or follow your state and local requirements. Review the CDC links provided and their frequently asked questions about international travel.
I’m travelling from the UK, what do I need to do?
To enter Morocco you may have to complete a Morocco public health passenger form. You no longer have to test or complete a UK passenger locator form upon return.
I’m travelling from a country other than USA and UK, how do I enter?
To enter Morocco you may have to fill in a public health passenger form, which can be downloaded here.
I need a Covid-19 test before I return, what do I do?
We will provide testing at an additional cost. After you have booked a trip with us, we'll provide these details.
I’m unvaccinated, can I still travel with you to Morocco?
No, unvaccinated travellers will not be allowed entry into Morocco for our trips at this time. All travellers on our trips must be fully vaccinated.
What is fully vaccinated?
Fully vaccinated is two shots from Pfizer, Moderna, Astrazeneca, Covishield, Sinopharm, Sinovac, Sputnik or one shot if you have Johnson & Johnson (Janssen). The date of your second shot (or one shot from Johnson & Johnson/Janssen) should not exceed four months before your date of arrival. If it does, you should have a booster dose (third shot from the above or second shot from Johnson & Johnson/Janssen).
Should I bring rapid covid tests?
We only certify covid test results completed by an accredited laboratory in Morocco. So if a traveller uses a rapid covid test, and that rapid test result is positive, the traveller will have to self-isolate from the group until they have a negative test result from a certified Moroccan lab.
What if I test positive for covid during a trip?
If a traveller tests positive for covid during a trip, the traveller will have to self-isolate in the accommodation until they have a negative covid test result from a certified Moroccan lab. The traveller will have to pay the costs for lab tests, private transport and accommodation.
What if someone else on the trip tests positive for covid?
If a traveller tests positive for covid, the entire group will need to be covid tested by a certified Moroccan lab technician. In order to continue forward with the group, each individual must be tested. If an individual refuses to be tested, that person will not be permitted to continue forward with the group until they have a negative test result from a certified Moroccan lab. The cost for this covid test will be paid by each individual.
What’s Morocco’s safety and vaccine status?
Morocco has nearly 70% of its population fully vaccinated with both doses. It’s currently manufacturing the Sinopharm vaccine domestically as well as continually receiving shipments of Pfizer and Moderna to be distributed. Since the pandemic began in 2020, Morocco has had less than 16,500 deaths total and over half a million people recovered from covid-19.
What’s Morocco’s State of Emergency?
Morocco has officially declared itself in a “Health State of Emergency.” It first declared itself in a state of emergency on 20 March 2020. It then extended the state of emergency each month because each declaration was given an expiration of one month.
The state of emergency is not synonymous with lockdown. It’s a legal declaration that allows the Moroccan government to immediately take exceptional measures against covid-19, such as imposing local and national lockdowns or severely restricting movements if necessary for the health and safety of the public.
Morocco ended it’s “Health State of Emergency” on 28 February 2023.
What does Morocco’s Covid-secure environment look like?
Morocco has implemented a series of proactive and preventative measures to mitigate contact transmissions creating a covid-secure country.
All spaces are given an extensive cleanse and sterilisation multiple times per day with an emphasis on contact points (door handles, table tops, etc…). Hygiene stations with hand sanitizer are also widely available. Temperature checks are also being used from time to time prior to admittance for accommodation providers as well as public buildings like national museums.
